It would be very nice to be able to transfer negative wip or interim bills via the client WIP transfer process. We can transfer the time/fees but then any on-account bills are left behind. We have a complicated bill process to move it but it would be nice to just be able to transfer it for a cleaner trail.
Can you tell us how you would handle credit notes after you'd transferred the original bill to another client? When the credit note is confirmed it would put the debit back into WIP on the original client.
If you did end up having to credit the original invoice after transferring the progress then you'd have to transfer the negative progress as well or transfer the credit via adjustments. A two step process and is part of what we already do anyway.
Currently to transfer the progress we create a $0 invoice that bills the original progress and creates progress on the new job. When/if the original bill is reversed via a credit, we have to do the same thing again.
This is still 100% better than having the progress linger on the wrong job and causing future billing frustration/errors.
OK. I didn't think there was anything else that you could do but I figured I'd better ask rather than assume. So the requirement to remember to transfer the credit note afterwards is still better than the current process?
It would be wonderful if the transfer was tracked by the system in such a way that the credit goes to the right place. However not having that credit tracking function wouldn't eliminate the firms need to transfer the progress.
the original comment can probably be done with a client sp as long as the interim amount is fully outstanding
