Can we add additional fee paragraph variables to automatically add the prior year to the fee paragraph? For example when we first signed on with PE we were told to use [YYYY] this would automatically add the prior year to the fee paragraph. For for instance right now 2021 we are working on 2020 tax returns. We would like to have the variable automatically fill in the year for our standard fee paragraph of "preparation of [year] individual tax returns" The year would change each year to be minus one of the current year. So Ideally we could use [Date] - 1year. Can something like this be implemented? I have partners that do not want to have to manually change the year in their fee paragraphs while billing.

Michelle Harris Hi Justin
The current fee variables only work with recurring bills.
Can I ask for some more information please? Are you envisaging this on manually created bills or Based on Job/ Based on Schedule bills? If so, where will the system pick the date up from?
Thanks
Michelle

Justin Drakes Hi Michelle,
If by manual bill you are referring to searching for a client, and clicking ne fee, then yes. This might be easier that I originally though if the system can do this. I have 2 thoughts on how to pull the year. Option #1: We build our jobs based on the year that is being worked on, so for instance our 1040 jobs say 2020 1040 Individual Return. Could we have the variable pull the year of the most recent job? Option #2: We could have the variable pull the current year from the last day of the current period and subtract 1. Would either of those work?
Thanks,
Justin

Michelle Harris Hi Justin
Thanks for the thoughts. For any fee variables we need to consider how it would work for all firms. There may be some firms that do not have the year in the job name.
It is definitely one for further thought and we will have to poll the community for their thoughts.
Thanks

Justin Drakes Hey Michelle,
Sounds good. I am interested to see if this gains any traction.
Thanks,
