The ability for one to subjectively enter a Client and/or a job code needs to be removed. Staff can make these changes upon creation which allows for multiple systems to be used oftentimes driven by Partner preference and with no mindfulness or consideration for data integrity. Personally, I don't see how there is any value in allowing someone to identify their own codes as it can only facilitate disparity within our data. We would submit that the number system can be controlled by an administrator or simply removed and the system will use the ContIndex and Job_Idx fields.

Michelle Harris Official comment This would not work for a large majority of clients who use these codes for a variety of reasons including integrations.
If you would like to remove that subjectivity from your system, it would be possible to override the client and job creations to automatically use the internal id's as the codes.

Steven L. Hart Thanks for responding Michelle, I’m really curious how these firms are using it and if they are, how they are doing so effectively.
I’m sure controls can be put in place (manual controls) but I struggle with the derived value considering the database uses contindex and job_idx to tie everything together.
Why leave it up to someone to pick the right value?
I know you can’t share exactly what those firms are doing, but if you can share the “concept”, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
